The Blueprint Intergovernmental Agency, Leon County Government and the City of Tallahassee celebrated a significant milestone on Tuesday with the groundbreaking of the Northeast Park project. Located adjacent to Roberts Elementary and Montford Middle School on Centerville Road, the 50 acre-site is expected to be completed by late 2026.
The park will feature two full-sized, lighted baseball and softball fields, one lighted multi-use field, four pickleball courts, a basketball court, and three sand volleyball courts. Also, there will be walking trails, a playground, open green spaces, restrooms, a community center, a concession stand, and paved parking equipped with electric vehicle charging stations.
“With amenities like baseball fields, walking trails, pickleball courts, EV charging stations, and more, this park will offer something for everyone,” said Dianne Williams-Cox, IA board chair and City of Tallahassee commissioner. “In addition to the city’s 100 world-class parks, Tallahassee residents will soon have another incredible public space to enjoy, enhancing our community’s overall quality of life.”
The design team considered a needs assessment that engaged community members through surveys and interviews. Feedback revealed a strong desire for walking paths, playgrounds, picnic shelters, and team sports facilities, all of which have been incorporated into the park’s plan.
“The Northeast Park will be a vital hub for team sports, recreation, and community events in Northeast Leon County and beyond,” said Brian Welch, IA board vice chair and county commission vice chair. “I’m proud we accelerated this project from its original 2035 start to today’s groundbreaking, made possible by our community’s steadfast support—thank you!”
