Skanska has completed the installation of 270 pre-cast structural pieces, marking a significant milestone in the $34.69 million redevelopment of the East Tampa Recreational Complex at Fair Oaks Park. The project, which is slated for completion in Spring 2026, will transform the 10.25-acre site into a world-class hub for recreation and community activities in East Tampa.
The redesigned complex will feature a range of indoor and outdoor spaces, including a senior center, a recreation center, an athletic field, and an exercise trail, all powered by more than 500 solar panels to support sustainability goals.
The design-build team for the project is led by Skanska, with architectural partners Howard + Associates and Convergence Design.
“We are incredibly proud to be part of this transformative project, which will become a cornerstone of the East Tampa community,” said Tracy Hunt, executive vice president and general manager for Skanska’s Florida building operations. “This new complex will support wellness initiatives, recreational programs, and offer a wealth of opportunities for children, seniors, and families in the region.”
Skanska’s responsibilities include the construction of a 33,055-square-foot recreation center that will serve as a versatile venue for various community programs and activities.
The new facility will significantly expand the existing Fair Oaks Community Center, offering five times the space of the previous structure and greatly increasing its capacity to serve the local population.
The expanded East Tampa Recreation Complex will include 1.5 miles of walking trails, a youth athletic field, two basketball courts, and two pickleball courts. Inside the main building, the facility will include a music room, art room, billiards room, and three multi-purpose rooms for flexible programming. A computer lab will also be available, providing access to technology and digital resources for community members.
Skanska’s work in Florida includes the renovation and expansion of the Tampa Convention Center, the award-winning Coachman Park in Clearwater, the St. Petersburg Pier, and the recently completed Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park in Tampa.
