Construction at Norriego Point is moving forward, with shoreline stabilization, boardwalk pilings, and dune crossovers, according to a Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) project update presented at a Destin City Council meeting.

Contractor Gorman Marine reports that stabilization work at the harbor entrance, including site grading and placement mats will be completed this month, said public information director Tamara Young.

As for boardwalk infrastructure, more than 50 percent of pilings are installed, including all piles for the terminal curve at the north end. Dune crossover pilings are 80 percent complete, while all pilings for the restroom and pavilion have been successfully placed.

Additional progress includes 60 percent completion of the framing for the boardwalk terminal curve and 20 percent completion of the northernmost dune crossover, known as Crossover 3.

Upcoming milestones will include:

  • Restroom facility construction will be completed mid-May.
  • Framing and decking for all three dune crossovers will commence, with completion expected by mid-March.
  • Harbor boardwalk framing and decking will follow, with an anticipated completion date in mid-April.

The project remains on schedule for substantial completion in late May, with final completion expected by late June 2025.
