Fiber provider Lumos has announced plans to expand its fiber optic network to Florida, the eighth state to build Lumos’ high-speed Internet services.

The company says it will initially deploy around 7,500 miles of fiber optic infrastructure across Florida, with the network expected to reach nearly half a million homes and small businesses. The expansion will include several counties, including Osceola, Escambia, Citrus, Lee, Pinellas, and Charlotte, with some of these markets set to receive fiber for the first time.

“We are thrilled to bring our advanced fiber technology to Florida,” said Brian Stading, CEO of Lumos. “Reliable, high-speed connectivity isn’t just a luxury—it’s essential. At Lumos, we are committed to providing world-class fiber technology that delivers faster speeds, greater reliability, and an exceptional customer experience.

“We look forward to becoming a trusted, community-focused partner for years to come.”

The construction timeline has not been released.

Based in Virginia, Lumos currently operates in Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. In addition to Florida, the company plans to expand its footprint to Ohio, Kentucky, Alabama, and Illinois.

The expansion comes a year after T-Mobile announced a deal to acquire Lumos as part of a joint venture (JV) with EQT Infrastructure, which is expected to close in early 2025. As part of the transaction, Lumos will transition to a wholesale model, with T-Mobile serving as the anchor tenant.

T-Mobile also plans to invest $500 million between 2027 and 2028 to further expand the network.
