The City of Kissimmee is moving forward with a $3.34 million intersection improvement project at West Oak Street and John Young Parkway (State Road 600 / US 17 / US 92). The revamp will begin in March and enhance traffic flow, safety, and accessibility for residents and commuters.

This project is primarily funded through the Local Agency Program (LAP), with over 95% of funds provided by Federal-Aid resources through the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and MetroPlan Orlando. The City of Kissimmee is contributing less than 5% of the total cost.

Construction started Mar. 3 and will be completed in the spring of 2026. Initial work will focus on utility relocation, with major roadway improvements in the coming months. Crews will work daily on weekdays from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Key upgrades include:

  • Roadway Expansion: West Oak Street will be widened for continuous through lanes while maintaining turn lanes at John Young Parkway.
  • Traffic Flow Improvements: A right-turn-only lane will be converted into a through lane to ease congestion.
  • Infrastructure Enhancements: Milling, resurfacing, new pavement, and drainage system upgrades.
  • Pedestrian Safety Features: Sidewalk upgrades, curb ramps, detectable warning surfaces, and compliance with ADA standards.
  • Traffic & Lighting Enhancements: Improved signalization, lighting, signage, and pavement markings for increased visibility.
  • Aesthetic & Environmental Improvements: Landscaping, erosion control, and sustainability-focused enhancements.
