Repairs will begin on the roof of Tropicana Field, with approval and $23 million from the City of St. Petersburg to cover the cost of fabrication, delivery, and installation of PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene) roof membrane.

City Council approved two resolutions for a $22.54 million Guaranteed Maximum Price (GMP) proposal with joint venture partners Hennessy Construction Services and AECOM Hunt for the fabrication, delivery, and installation of a new roof for Tropicana Field.

Hurricane Milton caused damage to Tropicana Field’s roof last October; and the city is obligated to “diligently pursue” repairs to make the stadium suitable for Tampa Bay Rays home games.

Following approval from the City Council, manufacturing will begin for the roof material. Roof replacement is expected to be completed by December 2025. Once the roof replacement is completed, the city will make plans to begin interior repairs and turf installation. All stadium repairs are currently scheduled to be complete by April 2026.

On Dec. 12, 2024, council approved a design-build agreement to provide pre-construction phase services for the Tropicana Field Emergency Roof Replacement Project. City contractors to move into the construction phase of the project.

Council will vote on four interior repair packages this summer that include: metal panel repair/replacement, sports lighting, low-voltage/audio/visual, and architectural/mechanical/baseball-specific items (drywall, flooring, cabinetry, isolated mechanical, turf, clay netting, etc.)
