An ice sports complex is set to break ground before July 3, after the Palm Beach North Athletic Foundation (PBNAF) announced it has secured the funding needed.
The 123,000-square-foot, two-story facility will include two NHL-size ice rinks and is designed to serve a wide range of users.
The announcement came after a request to the city for more time to secure funding was denied. With an “expanded commitment” from hockey coach and philanthropist Larry Robbins., the funding gap was closed. The project has also received support from hockey legend Wayne Gretzky.
The new facility will be built on the site of the Plant Drive skate park, a change that has drawn criticism from some residents concerned about the loss of the existing amenity.
Construction is expected to take about 18 months, with the facility slated to open in December 2026.
