Skanska has signed a $77 million contract with Hillsborough County Public Schools to rebuild Stewart Middle Magnet School as part of a combined campus with the adjacent Just Elementary School.

The project includes demolition of the existing Stewart Middle Magnet School and construction of a new 135,000-square-foot campus designed by FleischmanGarciaMaslowski Architecture. The middle school will provide more than 1,000 student stations, while the elementary school will serve over 530 students.

The integrated campus will include shared amenities such as a cafeteria and media center to promote collaboration and efficient use of space. The current Stewart Middle gymnasium will remain and receive new lighting and code upgrades.

“As Hillsborough County Public Schools continues to invest in modern educational facilities, this project will deliver a thoughtfully designed learning environment that supports both academic success and community needs,” said Daniel Abou-Jaoude, vice president at Skanska. “Our construction team brings extensive experience delivering K-12 schools across Florida, and we are proud to partner with the school district to build a modernized campus that will serve students for generations to come.”

Construction is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2028.

Skanska is currently leading roughly $400 million in educational projects across Florida, including work in Osceola, Hillsborough, Pasco, Pinellas, Manatee, Marion, and Lee counties.
