Johnson & Johnson plans to invest more than $1 billion in Jacksonville, Florida to expand its Vision Care manufacturing, packaging and distribution operations.

The project includes construction of a new distribution facility and upgrades to advanced manufacturing and packaging technology aimed at increasing U.S. production capacity for ACUVUE contact lenses. The expansion is intended to meet growing global demand while strengthening the company’s domestic supply chain.

“This investment reinforces our long-standing conviction that advanced manufacturing in the United States is essential to delivering innovative, high quality healthcare solutions to patients at home and around the world,” said Chairman and CEO Joaquin Duato, adding the expansion will enhance supply chain resilience and improve the company’s ability to serve patients worldwide.

The project is part of Johnson & Johnson’s previously announced $55 billion U.S. commitment to manufacturing, research and development and technology through 2029. Construction is underway, with the facility expected to be fully operational in 2028.

Jacksonville Mayor Donna Deegan called the project a “strong vote of confidence” in the city’s workforce and future, adding that the expansion will strengthen the region’s advanced manufacturing and life sciences sectors while creating long-term job opportunities.
