Ocean Aviation FBO has broken ground on a $67-million private aviation campus at Miami Executive Airport, with plans for a new terminal, 13 hangars, aircraft apron improvements and expanded airside and landside infrastructure.

The project is being developed on a 40-acre site under a 40-year ground lease with Miami-Dade County. The design-build project, led by Lemartec Corp., a MasTec company, will include a fixed-base operator (FBO) terminal, three communal hangars, 10 private hangars, aircraft apron and parking improvements, and a dedicated fuel farm.

Plans also include a 32,000-square-foot common-use taxi lane and ramp serving U.S. Customs and Border Protection. The campus will include the renovation and expansion of the Wings Over Miami Air Museum, providing a new home for the museum as part of the development.

Ocean Aviation announced the groundbreaking on social media, describing the project as a $67-million commitment to private aviation in South Florida. The company said the development will strengthen its presence in the Miami-Fort Lauderdale market. Ocean Aviation also operates National Jets at Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport, giving it a two-airport network across the region.

“Today’s groundbreaking reflects our continued conviction in the South Florida market and our commitment to building a world-class FBO platform,” said David Chene, managing partner at Kennedy Lewis Investment Management, a project partner.

The development is expected to support jobs and economic growth in the region.

Other project partners include Miami-Dade County, the Miami-Dade Aviation Department and architecture firm Schenkel Shultz.
